Does your vehicle need new tires?

At AAMCO Overland Park, we can help you to determine if your vehicle is ready to have its' tires replaced.

Tire Wear Warning Signs to look for:

Depth of the Tread:

If your tire’s tread is below 1/16th of an inch in depth, it is definitely recommended that you get new tires. If you often drive in bad weather conditions, getting new tires at 1/8 of an inch of tread in depth is a good idea.

To check for this is to use the old penny trick. Take your penny and put it with Lincoln’s head side down into the tire tread. If you see that Lincoln’s head is partly covered, then your tire is still within the suggested safety requirements. If this is not the case, then it is strongly suggested that you get new tires soon.

Generally, manufacturers include an indicator to warn you when your tread gets low, but other indicators include.

Cracked Sidewalls:

Besides low tread, another sign that your tires might need to be replaced are if you notice cracks in the sidewalls of your tires. These cracks can potentially lead to leaks and create a serious safety issue, like a blown tire.

Surface Bulges:

Many times when a tire’s exterior starts to weaken and degrade, you might see a lump or blister-type bulge that somewhat protrudes from the surface of the tire. This bulge can also lead to a blowout if not given appropriate attention.

Vibration:

Another good indicator that it’s time to get new tires are when you feel vibrations. Usually, when tires vibrate while you're driving it may indicate it's time for a tire alignment or it could also potentially be something else, like a shock absorber issue. It’s a smart idea to get it checked out to be sure.
